Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Travis Snider's two-run home run in the top of the third inning broke a 2-2 tie and helped lead the Indianapolis Indians to a 5-2 win over the Charlotte Knights in the finale of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark on Sunday.

Indianapolis starter Chris Volstad (10-6, 3.36) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings and earned the win -- his second of the season against the Knights. Volstad allowed both of his runs in the first inning of Sunday's game, before cruising to his 10th win on the season.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead against Volstad and the Indians. Charlotte center fielder Leury Garcia led the inning off with a double, his 17th of the season. Two batters later, it was Dayan Viciedo's turn.

Viciedo launched a two-run home run over the center field fence, his fourth of the season, which gave the Knights a 2-0 lead at that point. The home run for Viciedo was his 44th as a member of the Charlotte Knights, which is now tied for seventh all-time in franchise history with Josh Fields. Viciedo finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Indians tied the game (2-2) in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Elias Diaz and an RBI single by Dan Gamache. One inning later, the Indians added to their lead against Charlotte starter Brad Penny (6-8, 4.18), who was saddled with the loss.

In the third, Alen Hanson started things off with a walk. After Penny retired Keon Broxton on a fly out to center field, Snider changed the game with one swing of his bat. The Indians left fielder hit the two-run home run to give his club a 4-2 lead. That was all they needed.

Indianapolis added one more run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Diaz. The Indians finished Sunday's finale with 11 hits on the afternoon. Diaz and Snider paced the offense with two RBIs apiece. Josh Bell chipped in with three hits.

Relievers Radhames Liz and Blake Wood recorded the final 12 outs to close things out on Sunday for the Indians. Wood struck-out two batters in the ninth for his 27th save of the season.

Chicago White Sox reliever Daniel Webb did not allow a run in his only inning of work. Webb struck-out two batters over a scoreless seventh inning in his second major league rehab appearance with the Knights this season.

The Knights will now move on to face the Gwinnett Braves starting on Monday in a three-game series from BB&T Ballpark. RHP Scott Carroll (5-4, 3.80) will get the start for the Knights against Gwinnett RHP Jake Brigham (3-0, 5.11). Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. on Monday and fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs courtesy of Sahlen's. First pitch is on tap for 7:05 p.m. on Monday.
