Rochester Red Wings News Release

Austin Romine had three RBI in a 4-2 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders win over the Rochester Red Wings in Moosic, PA Sunday afternoon. The victory gave the RailRiders a three-game series sweep, and dropped the Wings 7 1/2 games out of first place. Taylor Rogers struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings for the Red Wings, and Kennys Vargas drove in both runs.

The Red Wings took an early lead against Scranton starter Kyle Haynes. With two outs, Reynaldo Rodriguez walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Vargas. Haynes had some help from his defense in the first, as Aaron Judge made a diving catch to rob Danny Santana of an extra-base hit to open the game. Rob Refsnyder made another fine defensive play, taking away a single from Xavier Avery for the third out of the inning.

The RailRiders got two runs back in their half of the second inning, against Wings starter Rogers. Gary Sanchez was credited with an infield single, reaching base on a grounder off the glove of Santana at short. Judge walked, and the runners moved to second and third on a ground out. That's when Austin Romine singled off the glove of a diving Argenis Diaz, with the ball deflecting into shallow left field. Sanchez and Judge scored, and Scranton led 2-1.

In the fourth inning, a ground out by Romine with one out brought in another run to expand the lead to 3-1.

Rogers struck out the side in the fifth inning, and did it again in the sixth inning - bringing his strikeout total for the day to seven.

When Rogers struck out Romine to open the bottom of the seventh, Rogers had tied his season-high - accomplished two other times, including June 14 against the RailRiders. Rogers fanned Gregorio Petit for the second out and a new season-high, but Scranton added another run on Ben Gamel's second double of the game to make it 4-1.

A.J. Achter took over for Rogers with two outs in the seventh. Rogers (9-11) worked 6 2/3 innings with eight hits, four earned runs and one walk allowed. He threw 95 pitches, 64 for strikes.

Haynes (2-1) working his longest outing of the season with Scranton, seven innings with just three hits and an earned run allowed. Haynes walked, two, struck out four, and threw 99 pitches - 66 for strikes.

In the ninth inning, Vargas hit a mammoth home run off of Andury Acevedo to make the score 4-2.
