Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (57-71) plated a pair of runs in the 10th to top the Pawtucket Red Sox (49-80) by a score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.
In the afore-mentioned two-run tenth, a trio of walks issued by Pawtucket RHP Pat Light loaded the bases with one out before a throwing error from PawSox SS Deven Marrero on a ground ball off the bat of Brian Bogusevic allowed Cord Phelps and Chase d'Arnaud to score and give the Pigs a 4-2 lead.
Light (1.0 IP, H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, K) was tagged with the loss for Pawtucket and falls to 1-4 on the season.
RHP Nefi Ogando (1.0 IP, 2 H, K) earned the win for the Pigs to even his record at 2-2 on the year and RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, BB) tossed a scoreless bottom of the 10th to pick up his 12th save of the year.
d'Arnaud's (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) two-run shot off of PawSox starter William Cuevas gave the Pigs a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. It was d'Arnaud's fifth home run of the season.
Pawtucket tied it at two in the home half of the same frame courtesy of a two-run shot from Deven Marrero. The home run was Marrero's sixth of the year.
Cuevas (n/d) gave up two runs on two hits to go along with three walks and seven strikeouts over 6.0 IP.
Pigs starter Severino Gonzalez (n/d) allowed two runs on four hits while fanning three in five innings of work.
The Pigs had two on with two out in the ninth, but PawSox LHP Robby Scott (3.0 IP, 2 H, 3 K) was able to get Jordan Danks to pop to second and end the inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, back-to-back two out singles put two on with two away for Pawtucket, but Ogando got Jonathan Roof to ground into a force to escape the jam.
RHP Chris Leroux (3.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 K) tossed three shutout frames in relief for Lehigh Valley.
Danks was 0-4 and saw his hitting streak come to an end at eight games.
Tommy Joseph (2-4) had a multi-hit game for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The IronPigs will return home to begin a three-game set with the Buffalo Bisons on Monday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-1, 3.44) gets the ball for the Pigs against Bisons LHP Jeff Francis (5-2, 2.14).
