Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Ben Gamel's walk-off sac fly in the bottom of the ninth proved to be the difference in the game as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (70-46) fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (73-43) by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at PNC Field in Moosic.
In the bottom of the ninth, Kyle Higashioka drew a one-out walk issued by RHP Dalier Hinojosa, advanced to second on a throwing error from Hinojosa, went to third on a single and scored on Gamel's sac fly to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the 3-2 win.
Hinojosa (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB) was tagged with the loss for the Pigs and falls to 1-1 on the year.
RHP Jonathan Holder (1.0 IP, 2 K) earned his first career Triple-A win for Scranton to improve to 1-0 on the year.
The Pigs did not have a hit after the fifth inning in the game.
The RailRiders grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Clint Frazier got on base with a one-out triple and scored on Aaron Judge's RBI single.
IronPigs starter Phil Klein (n/d) gave up the one run on four hits to go along with a career-high 10 strikeouts. The Columbus, Ohio native fanned the final seven batters that he faced.
Cam Perkins' (2-2, HR, RBI, R, 2 BB) solo shot in the top of the second off of Scranton starter Chad Green tied things at one apiece for the IronPigs. The home run was Perkins' first against a right-hander this season and his eighth round-tripper of the year overall.
The Pigs took the lead in the top of the fifth at 2-1 when Logan Moore led off with a double, advanced to third on a single and scored on J.P. Crawford's RBI single.
Green (n/d) allowed the two runs on six hits while walking two and fanning 10 over five innings of work.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tied things at two apiece in the sixth as Judge drew a leadoff walk issued by LHP Hoby Milner (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, 2 BB, K), went to third on a double and scored on Donovan Solano's sac fly.
RHP Colton Murray (2.0 IP, H, 2 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (8-6, 3.82) takes the hill for the Pigs against RailRiders LHP Dietrich Enns (5-2, 1.35).
