Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs (36-17) were shutout 5-0 by the Indianapolis Indians (29-23) Thursday night at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
After five scoreless innings, the Indians used a four-run bottom of the sixth inning in route to their 6-0 blanking of the Pigs.
Hoby Milner came on to pitch the Pigs bottom of the sixth inning and quickly found himself in trouble as three singles loaded the bases for the Indians. Joey Terdoslavich grounded into a one-out fielder's choice to Pigs third baseman Hector Gomez who threw home to get the lead runner to keep the game scoreless. However, two consecutive two-out two-run doubles from Eric Wood and Barret Barnes gave the Indians a 4-0 lead. The runs scored against Milner brings an end to his season starting 19 1/3 scoreless innings streak.
The Indians added a run in the seventh inning on an Austin Meadows sacrifice fly to center, scoring Erich Weiss to give the Indians a 5-0 advantage after seven.
The Pigs made their best comeback effort again in the top of the ninth inning with two outs in the frame. After Dylan Cozens and Rhys Hoskins grounded out, back-to-back two-out singles by Nick Williams and Hector Gomez gave the Pigs a chance in the ninth. Logan Moore then walked on four straight pitches to load the bases for Taylor Featherston .
Featherston then popped out to Terdoslavich in foul territory to end the game, and give the Pigs their first losing series since losing two out of three games to Toledo to end the month of April.
Indians starter Steven Brault picked up his third win of the season as he tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out eight batters.
On the night the Pigs went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base. The loss snaps a Pigs franchise-record eight consecutive series streak.
The Pigs now travel to Louisville, KY for a three-game set with the Louisville Bats at Louisville Slugger Field. Right-hander Zach Eflin (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Pigs, and the Indians will send rightt-hander Vin Mazzaro (0-2, 24.92)
