Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk held Pawtucket off the board for eight of nine innings Thursday, but the Pawsox used a six-run fifth inning to knock off the Tides 6-1 Thursday night at Harbor Park.
The game was scoreless entering the fifth frame before the Pawsox sent nine men to the plate against Norfolk starter Tyler Wilson (0-4). Rusney Castillo got the Red Sox on the board with a one-out, two-run double, and Ryan Court followed one batter later with a run-scoring double to center field. After Brian Bogusevic reached base on catcher's interference, Bryce Brentz connected on a three-run homer to give the Pawsox a 6-0 lead, chasing Wilson from the contest.
Wilson yielded six hits over 4.1 innings of work, walking one and striking out four while throwing 53 of his 88 pitches for strikes.
Hector Velazquez (4-1) earned the win for the Pawsox by yielding three hits over six shutout innings of work, while former Tide Edgar Olmos earned the save by working the final three innings of the contest.
Drew Dosch paced Norfolk's six-hit attack with two singles, including a two-out, run-scoring knock in the seventh inning. Dosch has now hit safely in 14 of his last 17 games, over which he's hit .313 (21-67) with four home runs, six doubles and 16 RBI. Dosch, a 24-year-old Youngstown State product, has registered at least one RBI in 11 of those 17 contests.
The win was Pawtucket's seventh in its last eight games, while Norfolk has now dropped five of its last six.
The Tides will continue their homestand on Friday night as they welcome in the Rochester Red Wings for the start of a three-game set. Jordan Kipper (2-0, 2.45) gets the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by left-hander David Hurlbut (2-3, 3.41), with first pitch slated for 7:05.
On Friday, the first 2,000 fans ages 17 and under will receive a replica Tides youth jersey courtesy of Pepsi and The Hampton Roads Show.
Notes: Johnny Giavotella singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games, and he's now reached base safely in 18 consecutive contests...Scott McGough and Vidal Nuño combined to allow two hits and strike out five over 4.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen...Jesús Montero made his Tides debut, going 0-for-3 with a walk in four plate appearances.
