March 9, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising trailed three times on the road in its season opener, but the club equalized each time and earned a hard-fought point in a 3-3 draw against San Antonio FC. Phoenix Rising debutants Junior Flemmings and Adam Jahn notched goals in their club debuts while Jason Johnson scored the equalizer against his former club in stoppage time.

WHAT TO KNOW

Junior Flemmings tallied a goal and an assist in his club debut.

Adam Jahn also scored in his club debut.

Rising earns a road draw in a season opener for the second consecutive season.

Rising earns its first point in San Antonio since 2016.

With the clock winding down in the 93rd minute, midfielder Solomon Asante sent a dangerous cross into the box, forcing the San Antonio goalkeeper to punch the ball away to the right of the box. Midfielder Kevon Lambert collected the rebound and then sent a cross back in front of the net where he found Johnson, who headed the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 3-3.

It was the third time in the match the club had pulled even with San Antonio. The host team opened the scoring in the 9th minute thanks to Ever Guzman, who made it 1-0. But in the 22nd minute, Flemmings equalized off a cross from Asante. Then former Rising forward Billy Forbes made it 2-1 in the 40th minute. But Flemmings was involved in pulling Phoenix Rising even again, this time by providing Jahn with an assist in the 43rd minute to make it 2-2. San Antonio benefited from a Rising own goal off the head of Jahn in the 81st minute before Johnson's stoppage-time stunner ended the scoring.

Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski made five saves on the evening, three of them occurring in the second half and the most important coming in the 91st minute, denying Forbes at the near right post to keep the match within one goal.

Rising FC will now return to Pheonix for its home opener on Saturday, March 16, against first-year USL Championship club New Mexico United. Fans who arrive early will receive a 2019 schedule magnet presented by Equality Health. Gates open at 6 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets online at PHXRisingFC.com
