Sandoval finds the net for the first time in NM United history as the team earns its first ever point

New Mexico United News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M - It was a historic evening in the Land of Enchantment, as New Mexico United earned it's first point in history. Devon Sandoval scored the lone United goal in 1-1 draw with Fresno, in front of 12,896 fans - a USL Championship week 1 record. His blistering strike in the 25th minute brought the already frenzied crowd to its feet, as a sea of black and yellow flags set the backdrop for New Mexico United's first signed player scoring the franchise's first goal in history.
The Foxes, however, clapped back immediately after halftime. At the 47th minute, Alex Cooper volleyed in a cross from the left wing that Jackson headed through New Mexico goalkeeper Cody Mizell, who got a touch on it but couldn't prevent it from bouncing into the net. It was the first USL Championship goal for Jackson in his first Championship debut.
Play got significantly chippier in the second half. Devon Sandoval and Fresno's Mickey Daly both picked up yellow cards, and a heated scrum in the early in the second half was probably responsible for all 4 minutes of stoppage time.
The Foxes outshot United 15 - 9 (6 -2 on goal). United Goalkeeper, Cody Mizell, notched 5 saves to Fresno keeper, C.J. Cochran's 1.
NM United are back in action next Saturday, as they travel to face defending Western Conference champions, Phoenix Rising FC.
Man of the Match
It had to be Devon Sandoval, right? The first signed player, returning to his hometown, and blasting an incredible goal from distance would be a hard story line to beat.
