Chester, Pa. (March 4, 2013) - Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has signed trialist Matt Kassel. Per club and MLS policies, the terms of the deal will not be released.

Kassel, a product of the New York Red Bulls youth academy, spent the entire 2013 preseason with Philadelphia. In 2011, he signed with New York Red Bulls, becoming the club's third-ever Home Grown player to join the senior roster. The 23-year-old spent last year with the USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds, scoring six goals in 18 games.

The Bridgewater, N.J. native spent three years at the University of Maryland, being selected as First-Team All-ACC as a junior (2010) and to the All-ACC Freshman team in 2008 when the Terrapins won the NCAA National Championship. While in college, Kassel made 68 appearances, scoring 11 goals and assisting 24 times.
