Philadelphia Union News Release
CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union have clinched a playoff berth in the Audi 2021 MLS Playoffs for the sixth time in franchise history. This is the club's fourth consecutive season in the playoffs, having reached the postseason five out of the last six seasons.
With the New York Red Bulls win over CF Montreal and Columbus Crew's win over D.C. United, the Union have secured their spot in the playoffs. The Union currently have 50 points, putting them in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 13-11-8 record.
"It is a great accomplishment to reach the playoffs, and one that has become a standard for this club," said Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin. "It is expected of this team to advance to the post-season and the work has just begun. We are now going to fight to keep a top seed in the conference and to get as many home games as possible. We greatly appreciate the fans that have stuck with us all season to get us here. We hear the yelling, cheering, and chanting that has made Subaru Park an electric environment for our players and a formidable one for opponents to play in. They are truly the backbone of this club, and we will continue to work hard to make this city proud."
The Union have two regular season games left, as they had when they earned their spot in 2018. In 2019 and 2020 the club clinched with five remaining matches, in 2016 they clinched on the last day of the regular season, and with one game left in 2011. With just two points separating the Union from second place Nashville SC, the club continues to battle for home field advantage.
Philadelphia will wrap up their regular season with their last home match on Oct. 31 vs. Cincinnati and away at NYCFC on Nov. 7.
