CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union beat the Colorado Rapids 6-0 on Saturday night at Subaru Park. With the win, the Union remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with 54 points. The Union got on the scoreboard first, when in the 9th minute midfielder Daniel Gazdag received a through ball pass from Mikael Uhre, sending a low driven shot to the bottom left of the goal, defender Kai Wagner was also credited with an assist. In the 20th minute, Gazdag would secure a brace after converting a penalty kick, sending it to the far right of the goal. In the 30th minute, the Union drew their second penalty of the match, with forward Julian Carranza stepping up to the spot to send it bottom left to put the Union up 3-0 before the break. In the second half, Gazdag secured his first career hat trick in the 83rd minute after collecting a through ball pass from Cory Burke in the box and chipping the Colorado keeper. With his goal, Gazdag tied former Union forward CJ Sapong for most goals (16) in a single MLS season for a Union player. In the 87th minute, Burke would claim a goal of his own after following a shot saved by Colorado, collecting the rebound and sending it in the back of the net. Philadelphia would cap off their night with a goal in the 91st minute of play, with substitute Matt Real receiving a short pass at the top of the box from Wagner, sending in a powerful strike to the bottom right corner of the goal. With his two assists tonight, Wagner is now second in club history in assists with 30. Goalkeeper Andre Blake earned his 12th clean sheet of the season.
The Union will return to action as they are set to face Atlanta United FC at Subaru Park on Wednesday, August 31st (7:00 p.m. ET / PHL17).
