New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (8-8-10; 34 pts.; 8th in East) begin a three-game homestand when they host the LA Galaxy (10-11-4; 34 pts.; 7th in West) on Sunday, August 28 for an 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium. The match airs locally on WSBK-TV38 and myRITV with Brad Feldman, Charlie Davies, and Tamara Brown calling the action. Sunday's contest also airs locally on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub and 1260 AM Nossa Radio (Portuguese).

New England and the Galaxy are set to meet for the first time since June 2, 2019, when the Revolution collected a 2-1 road victory in Bruce Arena's first match on the Revolution's sideline. Since then, Arena has amassed a .619 winning percentage, the best mark in club history. In the regular season series, the Revolution have won 11 of 21 home games against the Galaxy since 1996. This season, LA holds a 3-6-2 away record with five consecutive losses on the road.

The two original MLS clubs carry significant history into the match, highlighted by Arena himself, who led the Galaxy to three MLS Cup titles and two Supporters' Shields during his eight-season tenue as their head coach and general manager from 2008-16. LA Head Coach Greg Vanney played for Arena with the Galaxy before entering the coaching ranks, while the Revolution roster boasts several notable Galaxy alumni including defenders Omar Gonzalez and AJ DeLaGarza, both staples on Arena's three MLS Cup championship teams in LA, and midfielder Emmanuel Boateng.

Sunday's match begins a crucial three-game home swing for the Revolution, who play five of their final eight matches at Gillette Stadium. New England brings a nine-match unbeaten streak at Gillette Stadium into the homestand, having not lost in Foxborough since April 2. Anchored by goalkeeper Djordje Petrović and defenders Henry Kessler and Andrew Farrell in the back, the Revolution posted clean sheets in each of the last two home games. Farrell has recorded a team-high three assists against the Galaxy in seven league appearances.

New England enters the weekend in eighth place in the tightly packed Eastern Conference table. Only six points separate nine clubs between fifth and 13th place in the east. The Revolution are just one point behind the Columbus Crew (35 pts.) for the seventh and final playoff position. A three-point performance on Sunday could vault the Revolution as high as fifth place.

ThinkTaylor Concussion Awareness Night: Sunday's match is New England's annual Concussion Awareness Night in partnership with legendary Revolution forward Taylor Twellman's foundation, "ThinkTaylor," which has a mission to create social change with regard to traumatic brain injuries. Since Twellman's playing career was ended prematurely by concussions, he has dedicated an enormous effort to emphasizing awareness, rehabilitation, and education regarding head injuries to create a safer and smarter sports culture for all athletes, encompassing youth and professionals alike. Twellman will be on hand this Sunday, as fans are invited to wear the color orange and take his #TTPledge to promote concussion awareness at halftime. ThinkTaylor Cheer Cards will be distributed on gameday to help fans "Orange Out" Gillette Stadium in the 20th minute.
