Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis and Tacoma slugged it out for over three hours before the ‘Birds came away with a 13-11 win Monday night at AutoZone Park.

Josh Phelps led an explosive Redbirds offense, which scored 13 runs in the first three innings. Phelps drove in seven runs on the night and hit a pair of three-run homers adding a run-scoring single in the first inning. For the second day in a row David Freese hit a home run in the first inning following yesterday's grand slam with a three-run homer Monday night. Memphis sent 10 men to the plate in the first and third innings scoring five runs in each frame.

Tacoma answered scoring 10 runs in the first four innings and came within two runs when Luis Valbuena singled to score former Redbird Shawn Garrett. However, ‘Birds reliever Jason Motte closed the door on the rally striking out all five batters he faced. Rob Johnson went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and Victor Diaz added three hits of his own for the Rainiers in the loss.

Ron Flores picked up the win in relief after starter Mike Parisi lasted just 1.1 innings. Parisi gave up five runs on five hits before departing. Tacoma starter Sean White was saddled with the loss surrendering eight runs, six earned, on eight hits in 1.1 innings.

The Redbirds wrap up their series and homestand with Tacoma tomorrow night. P.J. Walters will go to the hill for the ‘Birds to face Rainiers lefty Ryan Feierabend. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
