LAST GAME: Oklahoma captured a 4-2 win at Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon. Rehab starter Brandon McCarthy allowed one run over 4.2 innings, before giving way to the bullpen. John Mayberry and Nelson Cruz hit solo home runs to solidify the RedHawks lead late in the game, but the Sky Sox managed to get the tying runs in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth. Bill White struck out the final two batters of the game to earn his third save, backing Kameron Loe's third win in the process.
STREAKING AGAIN: Nelson Cruz has several streak going entering play tonight. The RedHawks outfielder is riding a six-game hitting streak, his sixth this season of six games or more. Cruz has notched multiple hits in each of his last five games. The RedHawks all-time home run leader has also hit home runs in three straight games, marking the third time he has gone yard in back-to-back-to-back contests this season.
EXTENDED: John Mayberry extended his hitting streak to a current team-high seven games. The Oklahoma outfielder is hitting .276 during this streak. Mayberry's home run last night was his first since July 13 and second this month, spanning 86 at bats.
zèng bié:
The RedHawk bid farewell to Taylor Teagarden after Sunday's game in Colorado Springs. The 24 year-old catcher will join Team USA in preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The United States will play a series of exhibitions against former RedHawk Emerson Frostad and Team Canada in North Carolina before departing for China. Teagarden is one of two catchers on the US roster, along with Lou Marson from the Philadelphia Phillies Double-A Reading club. Team USA will play a morning-night doubleheader against Korea and the Netherlands on August 13 to begin Olympic play.
REDHAWK HOME RUN KING:
Nelson Cruz became the RedHawks all-time, single season home run leader on July 19 with a three home run game. Cruz's 37 home runs pass Steve Balboni's total during the 1993 season for second-most in Oklahoma's Triple-A history. Dave Roberts holds first place with 38 home runs during the 1965 season.
COLORADO SPRINGS AT A GLANCE:
Christian Colonel is riding a nine game hitting streak into play tonight, hitting .316 during that stretch... Tulsa native Cory Sullivan's 13 game hitting streak came to an end with an 0-4 performance yesterday. Sullivan walked once, however, to keep an on-base streak alive... Joe Koshansky is now tied with Albuquerque's Dallas McPherson for the second-most RBIs in the PCL at 82 apiece.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas fell 6-5 at Oakland... Frisco lost at San Antonio 3-1... Bakersfield edged Stockton 12-7... Clinton doubled up Lansing 6-3... Spokane rallied to beat Everett 5-4.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
The RedHawks have won three consecutive Sunday games to improve to 8-10 on the final day of the weekend... Nick Trzesniak was activated from the disabled list earlier today when Taylor Teagarden was placed on the temporary inactive list for his excursion to the 2008 Summer Games... Nelson Cruz's 93 runs batted in are the sixth-most in any single season in RedHawks history, trailing Ian Kinsler (2005) by one for fifth and eight off tying the single-season club record (Nate Gold's 103 last season).
