Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

There will be a Hollywood flavor when the American League and National League renew their rivalry in the 2008 Legends Game at Colorado Springs on Friday, August 1st at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs, home of the Sky Sox. The game will once again be a benefit for the Autism Society of Colorado.

Veteran Hollywood actor John Ashton (Beverly Hills Cop, Midnight Run, Little Big League) will manage the American League, while Sports talk mainstay Sandy Clough will pilot the NL again this year. Last year, Clough's NL squad was defeated by the AL, which evened the three game series at 1-1-1.

Ashton's squad will rely on a stellar pitching staff, led by former Yankee standout Brian Fisher, along with former Oakland A's hurler Bobby Chouinard, former Red Sox and Mariners hurler Mike Trujillo and ex-California Angel left hander Mark Holzemer. Also suiting up for the American League is current University of Wyoming Head Basketball Coach Heath Schroyer, the parent of an autistic son.

The National League will look to veterans hurlers to start and finish the game. Clough hopes to be able to hand a lead to former Expos All Star closer Tim Burke in the late innings. To do that, he will need solid work out of former Rockies Mark Knudson and Scott Randall, as well as former Cub Brad Stiles and more. Former Rockie Terry Schumpert will try to jump start the Senior Curcuit's offense, along with former CU Buff QB and San Diego Padre farmhand, Joel Klatt. Former NBA great and Denver Nugget Walter Davis will also suit up for the NL.

The evening will also feature a tribute to two legends of Colorado baseball, Bus Campbell and Bob Howsam, who each passed away in February of this year. Howsam's son, Robert will suit up as a coach for the National League squad.

Media members who will don uniforms for the game include Marc Soicher of Denver's CW 2, Joe Cole of Fox 21 News in Colorado Springs, Mike Evans and Marc Moser of FM 104.3 "The Fan" radio; Bill Rogan of Denver's KNUS radio, Marius Payton and Bill Doleman of "The Mountain" TV network, and Doug Ottewill of Mile High Sports Magazine.

Syndicated talk show host Michael Savage was going to be invited to play, however it was discovered that he will be undergoing an operation that day to remove his foot from his mouth and his head from his hind quarters, so he won't be able to make it.

Proceeds from the game benefit the Autism Society of Colorado. First pitch is at 7pm.
