Pheasants can't hold late lead, lose to Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants lost their 10th straight ballgame on Thursday night after squandering a late lead and falling to the Kansas City T-Bones, 7-6.

The Pheasants jumped to an early 5-1 advantage after two innings, but Kansas City rallied for six runs in the seventh inning, capped off by Ray Sadler's three-run home run against Pheasants reliever Ryan Grant (0-3).

Sadler dealt the Pheasants a big blow for the second straight night after a pounding a three-run shot on Wednesday night. He went 3-for-3 on Thursday, and he has seven RBI in the series.

Joe Anthonsen drove home Kevin Carby in the eighth to bring the Pheasants within one run, but the Pheasants could not collect another hit off closer Kyle Dahman. Dahman tossed the final 1 2/3 innings for his eighth save of the year.

The Pheasants spoiled a quality start by Kyle Ruwe. Ruwe went six strong innings, allowing just four hits and one run. He walked one and struck out two.

Pheasants reliever Dan McDaniel entered the ballgame in the seventh and did not record an out. All four men he faced reached on three hits and walk. He left with the bases loaded and yielded to Grant.

T.J. Large (5-7) notched the victory for Kansas City. He tossed 7 1/3 innings, allowed nine hits and gave up five runs.

Reggie Abercrombie homered in the second inning to push the lead to 5-0, his 15th of the season. He finished 2-for-5. Mark Shorey, Henry Contreras and Anthonsen also had two-hit nights. The Pheasants banged out 11 hits total but stranded 11 men on base.

The finale of the Pheasants' final road series of the year begins at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, August 26. Barry Fowler will start for the Pheasants, opposed by Brian Grening for the T-Bones. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM and www.kwsn.com.
