Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Stephen Douglas set another American Association record on Thursday, adding the league record for consecutive games to his league-record hitting streak, as he picked up six hits across both games of a doubleheader sweep, helping the Grand Prairie AirHogs to 12-0 and 4-3 wins over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains at Fair Grounds Field.

Grand Prairie (61-35) pounded out 13 hits in each game, which per league rules were each seven innings. In the twinbill opener, the AirHogs were held off the board in the first inning, before getting four runs in the second inning against outfielder-turned-spot starter Alex Cowart (0-1) and reliever Lee Henry, helped by five walks and an error in the frame.

The AirHogs broke it open with a two-run third and four more in the fifth, finishing the scoring with another pair of runs in the sixth inning.

The offense was in support of Grand Prairie spot-starter Bo Schultz (4-3), who dominated the Captains (44-51) to the tune of two hits and a walk in six innings, striking out four and allowing only three outs to his outfielders throughout the night.

Craig James pitched a scoreless seventh to finish off the AirHogs' 60th win of the season.

In the nightcap, Captains starter Josh Strawn (3-3) held the AirHogs off the board for the first two innings despite three hits, while Shreveport-Bossier scratched across a run in each of the first two frames - one earned - against starter Lance Janke (6-3), who was working on three days' rest.

But The AirHogs pounded out five hits and a sac fly from the first six batters of the third to take the lead at 3-2, while Janke finished his five innings of work without allowing another run - twice stranding the possible tying run at third with one out. Cesar Nicolas's two-out RBI double in the sixth made it 4-2 Grand Prairie, but the short-handed Captains got one back when pitcher Osvaldo Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-3.

Jon Hunton was able to finish things off though, getting a double play and a pop-up after a leadoff single, picking up his league-leading 23rd save of the year.
