Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Amarillo Sox 6-4 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Friday night.

With St. Paul's loss to Sioux City, the Wingnuts moved back into a tie with the Saints in the wild card standings. The Wingnuts remain tied in the Central Division with the Gary SouthShore RailCats, who beat Lincoln. All three clubs are down to their final four games of the year.

Junior Guerra improved to 9-3 with eight strong innings. Guerra allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits. Guerra walked three and struck out seven in the win.

The Wingnuts scored first for the first time in the series, manufacturing a run in the bottom of the first. Jimmy Mojica led off with a walk, stole second, and was sacrificed to third by Josh Horn. Juan Richardson scored Mojica with a groundout to second base.

In the bottom of the second, Jorge Delgado led off with a line drive single to right-center. Delgado stole second base and scored three batters later on Mike Conroy's two-out, RBI single to center field.

Amarillo briefly tied the game in the top of the third. Adam De La Garza and Harrison Kain drew back-to-back walks against Guerra to start the inning. Kevin Butler sacrificed the runners to second and third. Ron Fenwick brought in De La Garza on a groundout to shortstop. Kain scored when Jason White beat out an infield single on a groundball up the middle with two outs.

Horn and Richardson hit consecutive singles to open the third. With runners on first and third, Carlos Rivera grounded into a double play that gave Wichita a 3-2 lead.

With two outs and no one on base in the fifth, Rivera and Delgado lined singles to put runners on first and second. Mitch Einertson extended the Wingnuts' lead with a long double to left-center that scored both runs and made it 5-2.

The teams traded unearned runs in the sixth inning, both coming on sacrifice flies.

Josh Dew allowed a two-out, RBI triple down the left field line to De La Garza in the top of the ninth, but struck out Kevin Butler with the tying runs on base to end the game and earn his 20th save of the year. The 20 saves tie a Wingnuts' single-season record, set by Byron Embry in 2008.

Ryan Mitchell started for Amarillo and took the loss. Mitchell allowed six runs, five earned, in seven innings. Mitchell walked four and struck out four, and allowed 10 hits.

The Wingnuts head to El Paso for a four-game series at Cohen Stadium, beginning Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. Central Time. Marcos Tabata will start for Wichita. All the action can be heard locally on Oldies 93.5 KWME and worldwide at www.kleyam.com
