
Phantoms hand out annual awards

(PHILADELPHIA, April 17, 2005) - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League handed out their annual team awards prior to Sunday's regular-season finale against the Norfolk Admirals at the Wachovia Spectrum. Phantoms Chief Operating Officer Frank Miceli bestowed seven awards, while two others were presented by Phantoms fans.
Forwards R.J. Umberger and Riley Cote were the big winners tonight, each winning two awards. Umberger was honored as the team's leading scorer and received the Rookie of the Year Award. Cote captured the Most Coachable Player Award and won the Phan Club's third-annual Unsung Hero Award.
Defenseman Freddy Meyer was voted as the Fans' Choice Award winner for the second straight year through online voting at the Phantoms website, www.phantomshockey.com. In addition, left wing Josh Gratton took home the Phantoms' Community Service Award, defenseman John Slaney won the Most Consistent Player Award, Dennis Seidenberg received the Barry Ashbee Award for being the club's best defenseman, and Ben Stafford accepted the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year Award, which recognizes achievement in community service.
