Peterborough Petes News Release
The Peterborough Petes, Peterborough Memorial Centre, and the Kinsmen Club of Peterborough are encouraging all Petes fans attending the Petes game on Saturday Dec 4th Vs. the Windsor Spitfires to arrive before 5:45pm in order to avoid traffic congestion and road closures due to the 2010 Santa Claus Parade.
Fans are asked to access the main Memorial Centre parking lot via the Lock St. entrance at the South East corner of the Memorial Centre, or the West parking lot beside the Kawartha Gymnastics building via the grandstand entrance at the North West corner of Morrow Park on Park St. There will be no access to either of the parking lots via Roger Neilson Way the day of the game and only people attending the game that night will be allowed to park at the Memorial Centre, therefore, parade viewers not attending the Petes game are asked to find alternative parking.
"With the increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic we will be bringing in extra security and Pay Duty Police Officers for both parking lots, as well, the Kinsmen club will have extra volunteers on hand to direct traffic" states Memorial Centre Manager Sue Warrington.
With concerns over the safety of parade viewers, participants and people attending the Petes game, Roger Neilson Way/George St will be blocked by Peterborough Lakefield Community Police South of Lansdowne St. to McGill St. beginning at approx 5:45pm on December 4th, 2010.
"This is the fifth year we have had a crossover with a Petes game and the Santa Claus Parade. For four years we have followed the same action plan and experienced no issues or complaints from the public. The Petes, Memorial Centre, Kinsmen Club and Peterborough Lakefield Community Police have worked diligently again this year to make sure the safety of all patrons is of the utmost importance. As a result we are asking fans to arrive early, arrive safe and use the designated parking lots and entrances" states Petes Assistant General Manager Aaron Garfat. "Brown's Fine Foods will have all concessions including the PMC Pub and Grill open to all fans beginning at 5:00pm when the Memorial Centre doors open an hour ahead of the regularly scheduled time. The Petes game against the Spitfires will begin at 7:05pm and again this year will be showing the TV Cogeco broadcast of the Santa Claus Parade on our video scoreboard."
