Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Brampton, ON- Casey Cizikas continued his hot streak by scoring the game winner and adding an assist to lead the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors past the Brampton Battalion 3-2 tonight at the Powerade Centre. The win gives the Majors their ninth in a row and improves their record to 23-2-0-1 on the season.

The Battalion grabbed the lead midway through the first period but the Majors responded late in the first and grabbed the lead for good in the second period. Barclay Goodrow got things started for the Troops just past the midway point of the opening period after Sam Carrick found him in-front of the Majors goal. Goodrow took the pass and fired past Majors goaltender Anthony Peters to make it 1-0 for the home side. Devante Smith-Pelly scored his sixteenth goal of the season with under a minute to play in the first to tie the game at 1-1. Casey Cizikas forced a turnover to the side of the Battalion goal and got the puck to a streaking Smith-Pelly. Smith-Pelly made a spin move in-front of Cody St. Jacques in the Brampton goal, his second effort beat the veteran goaltender for the goal. The teams headed to the dressing room tied at 1-1.

It took the Majors just 1:51 into the second period to take the lead when Jordan Mayer redirected Stuart Percy's shot from the point past St. Jacques to make it 2-1. Casey Cizikas increased the Majors lead to 3-1 at 15:47 on the power play. Cizikas whacked in the rebound off Marc Cantin's initial shot from the point for his fourteenth goal of the season. St. Mike's took the two goal advantage into the intermission after forty minutes.

The Battalion pulled to within one after Ian Watters capitalized on the power play off a rebound to make it 3-2 at 12:24 of the third period. Michael Santini worked the puck out of the corner and had his first shot blocked. Watters jumped on the rebound and put it past a screened Anthony Peters. That's as close as the Battalion would come as the Majors didn't allow another goal and preserved the 3-2 victory. Anthony Peters stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced to earn the victory for Mississauga. Cody St. Jacques made his first start in goal for Brampton and stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced in a losing effort.

The Majors will now head to London to meet the Knights tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. Following tomorrow night's game the Majors will travel to Guelph to face the Storm on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup ticket packages are on sale.
