PETERSBURG, V.A - The Petersburg Generals scored a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to win a back and forth affair, 7-6 over the visiting Wilson Tobs on Monday night at the Petersburg Sports Complex.
Petersburg (6-8, 20-22) loaded the bases with two outs against the Tobs and were able to bring across the winning run when Mike Revell singled down the right field to score William Ward.
Trailing by a run in the last of the seventh, the Generals rallied back to even the score against Tobs reliever Christian Oliver. With one out, Jake Yacinich doubled down the left field line and came in two hitters later on a Dillon Vitale bloop single to left field to tie the game.
Wilson (5-9, 14-28) took a one-run, 6-5 lead in the seventh inning as Harry Slade drew a one out walk and after stealing second and moving to third on a throwing error, the Tobs centerfielder scored on a Joe Costigan sacrifice fly.
The Tobs trailed by three runs as they came to the plate in the fourth inning and were able to even the contest against Generals left-hander, Rick Teasley. Trey Whaley doubled off the left field wall and was driven home one batter later when Jackson Slaid drilled a two-run double to left field. Wilson knotted the score later in the frame on a Collins Cuthrell ground out.
The two teams traded blows as the Tobs took the lead at 5-4, and 6-5 but each time the Generals were able to rally and win in 10 innings.
Wilson will return to Historic Fleming Stadium on Tuesday night at 7:05 when they host the Martinsville Mustangs. It will be another 2 for 1 Tuesday as fans will have the chance to purchase two tickets for the price of one.
