Annunziata, Bass Make All-Star Team

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today its All-Star teams for the All-Star Game on Monday, July 23, and the Marlins are pleased to announce first baseman Sal Annunziata and catcher Corey Bass have both been selected to participate.

Annunziata, a freshman from Seton Hall University, is second in the CPL with six home runs and 29 RBIs. In addition, he is second on the Marlins squad with a .281 average. Recently Annunziata has been on a tear, as over his past eight games, the Bronx, NY native has ripped three home runs and driven in 12. This spring at Seton Hall, Annunziata finished with a .277 average, three home runs and 24 RBIs in 51 games.

Bass makes the All-Star team this summer in his second season with Morehead City. On the 2012 campaign, Bass is hitting .264 with one home run and 11 RBIs. Additionally, the junior from the University of North Florida has thrown out 19 of 42 baserunners attempting to steal, good for 42%. This spring, Bass hit .229 and threw out 33% of runners attempting to steal.

The All-Star game is split up in to the American League and National League teams. The American League manager is Phil Disher, the manager of the Forest City Owls who were the West Division first-half champions. The National League squad is managed by Steve Moritz who led the Edenton Steamers to the East Division first-half title. Annunziata will start at first base for the American League team, where Marlins manager Brian McRae is an assistant coach. Bass will be a reserve for the National League team at the catcher position.

The 2012 Coastal Plain League All-Star Festivities will feature several attractions over a two-day span. During Fan Fest on Sunday, July 22, fans can look forward to the All-Star Home Run Derby, while on Monday, July 23, the main attraction will be the 2012 CPL All-Star Game. Both will be held at the home of the Wilson Tobs, Historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C. The Morehead City Marlins are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
