Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs improved to 8-2 in the second half of the season when they swept a doubleheader with the Florence RedWolves on Monday night. Starters Gary Ashcraft and Kyle Norville combined for 12 innings and two earned runs on the mound between the two games.
The Dogs took the first game 3-2, jumping out to an early lead with a Reed Harper (Austin Peay) RBI-double in the first inning of play.
Tyler Ding (Tampa) executed a perfect safety squeeze with runners on first and third in the third inning, scoring Mike Tauchman (Bradley). That 3-0 lead held until the fifth, when Florence scored two runs to make it a one-run game.
Stephen Frey (Monmouth) and Tyler Brunnemann (Hardin-Simmons) combined for two shutout innings of relief to seal the victory.
After the RedWolves got on the board first in the second game, Fayetteville plated three runs in their half of the first frame to make it 3-1.
Harper picked up an RBI-single and later scored on a passed ball. He finished the evening a combined 4-5 with 3 RBIs between the two games. Ding also added an RBI-single in the frame.
The Dogs added one more insurance run in the fifth inning, when John Howell (Binghamton) scored from third on an errant throw on a stolen base attempt at second base.
Kyle Norville earned a complete game victory, allowing just two hits and five baserunners in seven innings of work.
The next SwampDogs home game is on Tuesday, July 17th, where it's UNC-Pembroke Night at "The Swamp." Fans that wear Braves gear will receive a $1 off general admission ticket pricing for the game. Gates will open at 6:00pm, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
