
Owls Send Seven to CPL All-Star Game

Forest City, NC- The Forest City Owls had seven players selected to the 14th annual Coastal Plain League All-Star Game, which will take place next Monday, July 23rd in Wilson, NC. Alex Close (1B), Bryan Aanderud (2B), Gunnar Heidt (SS), Stephen Tarkenton (3B), and Nathan Chong (OF) were selected as position players. Ryan Tezak and Jake Padgett both made the roster as pitchers. All seven players were picked as part of Owls' head coach Phil Disher's American All-Stars.
In addition to being named as all-stars, Aanderud, Tarkenton and Chong were named as starters for Monday's contest. The seven players selected are the most of any team in the Coastal Plain League. Forest City finished the first half of the season with a 20-8 record, clinching the Western Division title and earning a spot in the Petitt Cup Playoffs at the end of the season.
The voting process was done by division with ballots coming in from each team's head coach and a media representative. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players, although a team's media representative was. Monday's All-Star Game will be preceded by the All-Star Fan Fest on Sunday. Forest City plays host to the Gastonia Grizzlies on tonight. It will be Mighty Dollar Monday at McNair Field with select concession items available for just a buck. The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
