Perfect Finish Required to Reach Post-Season

April 4, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

The Peoria Rivermen dealt the Flames' playoff hopes a serious blow on Saturday night with a 2-1 win at the i wireless Center. With the loss, the Flames will not require wins in each of their three remaining games couple with trios of losses by Rockford and Houston to qualify for the playoffs. Anders Eriksson netted the lone Quad City goal in the defeat.

The Rivermen scored twice in the opening twenty minutes. Jim Jackson netted a goal off a 2-on-1 break at 9:02 of the opening frame. Yan Stastny snapped home a shot from the bottom of the right wing circle at 12:39 of the opening period to give the Rivermen a 2-0 edge through the opening period.

In the second frame, Manny Legace turned aside 14 Quad City shots to hold the Flames scoreless. Leland Irving responded by stopping all nine shots he saw to keep the Flames within two goals after two periods.

Anderson Eriksson put the Flames on the board at 7:12 of the third period on the power play. Eriksson's point shot was tipped off a Rivermen defenseman and into the Peoria net to slice the Rivermen advantage to a single goal. The Flames could pull no closer despite outshooting Peoria 12-2 in the closing frame.

The Flames visit Bleacher Bums on Monday night for the final regular season edition of the Budweiser Flames Forum. Ryan McGill, Peter Vandermeer, John Vigilante and Brett Sutter will appear on the show beginning at 6:00 p.m. Fans in attendance will have a chance to win great prizes from the Flames and Budweiser. The show can also be heard on 93.9 FM WYEC.

The Flames are back on home ice on Wednesday night to face the Rockford IceHogs at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available now at the i wireless Center Box Office, via phone at 1-800-745-3000 or on-line at ticketmaster.com.
