
Lightning Recall Mihalik and Konopka from Admirals

TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have recalled defenseman Vladimir Mihalik and center Zenon Konopka from the Admirals, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced.
A 6-foot-7, 222-pound native of Presov, Slovakia, Mihalik has recorded two goals and 15 points in 61 games for the Admirals this season. He has also recorded one power-play goal.
Mihalik, in his second professional season, has played in seven games with the Lightning this season with two assists, four shots on goal and four penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut on October 4 against the New York Rangers and recorded his first career point with an assist January 4 at Atlanta.
The 22-year-old was drafted by the Lightning in the first round, 30th overall, at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Konopka, 6-1 and 213 pounds, has played in 70 games with Norfolk this season, recording 17 goals and 57 points. He leads the Admirals in points and assists while also serving as captain. Konopka has played in three games with the Lightning this season, recording 17 penalty minutes. He made his Tampa Bay debut December 10 at Buffalo.
A native of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Konopka has played in 35 career NHL games with Tampa Bay, Columbus and the Anaheim. He has played in 350 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Utah, Syracuse, Cincinnati, Portland and Norfolk. He has netted 103 career goals and recorded 269 points. He has also played in 44 career Calder Cup Playoff games, recording 17 goals and 45 points. Konopka has also played in 91 career games in the ECHL with Wheeling and Idaho, recording 28 goals and 98 points.
The 27-year-old played in 242 games with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League during his junior career. Konopka scored 28 goals and recorded 98 points with Ottawa. He also played in 51 career playoff games, recording 16 goals and 37 points.
The Lightning signed Konopka as a free agent on July 10, 2008.
The Admirals will round out the home slate for 2008-09 tonight with the final contest at Scope ever against the Philadelphia Phantoms. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. The game will be Fan Appreciation Night with thousands of prizes being given out to the most important members of the team - the fans.
