Manitoba Moose News Release

In their final home game of the regular season, the Manitoba Moose dropped a 3-2 decision to the Toronto Marlies in front of 13,043 fans at the MTS Centre on Saturday night. This is the fifth consecutive loss the Moose have suffered at the hands of the Marlies. Jason Krog and Mark Cullen both notched goals for the Moose, while goaltender Curtis Sanford stopped 25 shots for only his third loss in regulation time.

Manitoba's powerplay unit made their first appearance at 5:35 when former Moose Andrew Martens was penalized for hooking. The Moose were able to test Justin Pogge twice on the man-advantage but couldn't break the 22 year-old net minder before the penalty expired.

The Moose opened the scoring at 9:27. Travis Ramsey's initial shot was blocked by Pogge but Jason Krog wired the rebound into the net to record his 30th of the season and put the home team in a 1-0 lead.

The Moose didn't enjoy their lead for long as Jiri Tlusty flew down the left side of the ice and slapped the puck over Sanford's glove hand to knot the game.

At 15:58 the Marlies stole the lead when Joe Ryan notched his third of the season, with help from Andre Deveaux, for a 2-1 tally.

The opening of the second period brought fans to their feet as Daniel Rahimi and Jay Rosehill squabbled near centre ice. After all was said and done, both players were penalized with five-minute fighting majors, along with an extra slashing minor handed to Rahimi.

At 4:44 an entire line brawl erupted in the Moose zone. With three separate fights happening at the same time, two players on each squad were sent to the sin bin for fighting.

With a minute left in the middle frame, Darryl Boyce slapped the puck from the point, through the traffic and into the net to put the Marlies on top 3-1.

After back and forth play for the majority of the third period, the Moose were leading in shots 36-28. With a pass from Guillaume Desbiens, Mark Cullen wrapped the puck around the net and stuffed it between Pogge's left pad and the goal post, 3-2. Despite the last minute effort, the Moose couldn't break Pogge again and the Moose fell to the Marlies 3-2.
