Peraza Named Southern League Player of the Month

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves second baseman Jose Peraza was named Southern League Player of the Month by Minor League Baseball for the month of July. MiLB selects award recipients each month from each of its leagues.

Peraza, 20, posted a .359 batting average during the month of July and swiped a league-leading 16 stolen bases. The second baseman joined the M-Braves on June 19. In 41 total games with the Double-A club, Peraza has posted a .335 average with seven doubles, three triples, one home run and 15 RBI. He's walked six times, struck out 15 times and stolen 25 bases (third in the Southern League).

Before his promotion to Double-A, Peraza was hitting .342 through 66 games at High-A Lynchburg. He had 27 RBI and 35 stolen bases. Ranked by Baseball America as the Braves sixth-best prospect, Peraza was selected as a 2014 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star. He was also named to the 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game World Roster. A native of Venezuela, Peraza was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2010.
