Stars Tie Tennessee in Standings with Win

Kodak, TN-The Huntsville Stars continued their winning ways on the ten game road trip with a series opening 5-2 win Tuesday night over the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Park. With the win, the Stars are now tied with Tennessee for first place in the second half of the Southern League north standings with nineteen games to play.

Huntsville received an outstanding start from righty Drew Gagnon(9-6). The only two runs he allowed came in the fourth inning. Christian Villanueva lined a two-run double down the left field line giving the Smokies a 2-0 lead.

Gagnon, who earned the win went seven innings and allowed six hits. He struck out four.

The Stars took the lead for good against Tennessee RHP Felix Pena in the top of the fifth.

Yadiel Rivera led off with a homerun, his second of the season. It was also Rivera's second straight game with a homer.

Nick Ramirez tied the game with an rbi single. The next batter was Hector Gimenez and he gave the Stars the lead on his rbi single.

Pena(1-2), who took the loss went 4.1 innings and allowed four hits on three runs.

Nick Shaw padded the Stars lead with a two-run single in the sixth to give the Stars a 5-2 advantage.

David Goforth nailed down his twenty fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Stars(25-26, 71-50) lead the Smokies(25-26, 58-62) 1-0 in their series as it continues Wednesday night. The Stars will feature RHP Jacob Barnes(2-5, 4.36) on the mound. Tennessee will have RHP Corey Black(5-7, 3.18) on the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:00 CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
