JACKSON, TENN. (AUGUST 12, 2014) - The Generals (23-27, 54-65) picked up a game on the North division leaders with a 4-0 shutout win over the Birmingham Barons (23-27, 52-68) Tuesday in Jackson. The Generals logged issued their eighth shutout of the season and pulled within 1.5 games of the league leaders in the North standings.

It took until the bottom of the sixth for a runner to cross the plate as Jordy Lara (2x4, 2 RBI) picked up a two-run single with the bases loaded, scoring Leon Landry (1x5, R) and newcomer Tyler Smith (1x4, R, 2B) for the 2-0 lead.

Jackson plated two more insurance runs in the eighth as Kevin Rivers (1x4, R, 3B, RBI) hit an RBI triple to bring home Dan Paolini (0x2, R, BB), then Steve Baron (2x4, 2B, RBI) followed with a broken bat single that scored Rivers and it was 4-0 Generals after eight innings.

That was all the help Cam Hobson (8-9, 3.97) needed as he won his second straight start and third in his last four as he scattered seven hits in 6.0 shutout innings. Trevor Miller (5-8, 2 SV, 4.05) came out of the pen to collect his second career save with 3.0 shutout innings of his own. Miller also struck out four and walked none to preserve the victory.

Tyler Olson (6-7, 3.97) will start game one for Jackson as Birmingham will have Mike Recchia (5-3, 3.36) on the bump.
