FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Peoria Chiefs scored five runs in the first inning on their way to a 10-0 blanking of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, Wednesday at Parkview Field. Daniel Meeley doubled and walked.

Peoria took command right from the start. Hak-Ju Lee and Logan Watkins ripped back-to-back triples to open the game, then Matt Cerda drove Watkins home with a groundout. Later in the inning, Nelson Perez pounded a three-run homer to cap the five-run outburst.

In the second, Lee nailed his first home run of the year to push the Chiefs' lead to 6-0.

In the fourth, Cerda smacked a two-out, two-run double to right-center, then Justin Bour doubled to center to push the deficit to 9-0.

Peoria scored again in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Perez.

Fort Wayne's offensive opportunities were few and far between. A runner was caught stealing in the first, then another runner was cut down between second and third on a fielder's choice in the second inning. The TinCaps hit into three double plays after the fifth inning.

Peoria RHP Nick Struck (4-8) was the winning pitcher, firing six scoreless innings to continue a spectacular month of July. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (7-4) took the loss.

Fort Wayne fell to 12-13 in the half, 48-47 for the season. Peoria improved to 10-13 in the second half, 48-44 for the year.

The TinCaps and Chiefs (Class-A Chicago Cubs) continue the three-game series Thursday at Parkview Field at 7:05 p.m. Peoria RHP Ryan Searle (4-4) makes the start for Peoria; Fort Wayne's starter is to be announced.
