NORFOLK, Va. (Wednesday, October 20, 2004) – Rene Bourque scored two goals, including the game-winner 1:26 into overtime to lead the Norfolk Admirals to a 4-3 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Norfolk Scope.

With the win, the Admirals improved to 3-0, while the Penguins have now lost their first four games of the season. However, the Penguins did pick up a point in the standings with the overtime loss.

In overtime, Bourque took a pass from Jason Morgan and skated past David Koci and Chris Kelleher just inside the offensive zone. Splitting the Penguins' defense, he broke in all-alone on Andy Chiodo and fired a wrist shot low to the stick-side for the goal.

With time winding down, the Penguins forced overtime on Shane Endicott's goal with 1:06 left in regulation. With Chiodo skating off for an extra skater, Alain Nasreddine kept the puck in the offensive down and fired the puck along the boards to Tomas Surovy, who was behind the Norfolk goal. Surovy looked around and found Endicott open in the high slot. He took the pass and fired a shot past Craig Anderson high to the glove side for the game-tying goal.

After failing behind 1-0 and 2-1 early in the second period, the Admirals scored two goals in little of five minutes to take a 3-2 lead. Mikhail Yakubov tied the game with a power play at 5:33 and Bourque beat Chiodo at 10:39 with a snap shot from the top of the left face off circle that sailed just over his catching glove and under the cross bar for the goal.

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the game as Michel Ouellet scored his second goal of the season. On a 2-on-1 break, Ouellet took a cross-ice pass from Maxime Talbot and banged home the pass at 4:48 to give the Penguins the early lead.

The Penguins led 1-0 until 1ate in the period when Ajay Baines tied the game with his first goal of the season at 13:19. Andy Chiodo made a pad save on Matt Keith's wrist shot, but Baines picked up the loose rebound in front and snapped a back-hander past Chiodo for the goal. But the Penguins came back 1:34 later and tied the game on Matt Hussey's goal. Kris Beech found Hussey breaking to the net and Beech fired a prefect pass to him. Hussey buried a wrist shot past Anderson for his second goal of the season at 14:53.

The Penguins, who had several point-blank scoring chances during the game with the man-advantage, were held scoreless on five power play chances, while Norfolk scored once on four attempts.

Andy Chiodo stopped 28 of 32 shots, while Craig Anderson made 30 saves to improve his record to 2-0.

The Penguins (0-3-1-0) end their four-game road trip on Friday against the Admirals (3-0-0-0). Game time is at 7:30 p.m. at Scope.
