Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins won their third straight game thanks a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Americans at Blue Cross Arena. Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers made 23 saves to pick up his league-leading 10th win of the season.
It looked as though the first period would come and go without a goal until the Penguins got a late power play opportunity. Right as Rochester returned to full strength, Scott Harrington whipped a shot toward the net that Tom Kostopoulos tipped by Rochester goalie Matt Hackett to make it 1-0 with just 3.9 seconds left until the intermission.
Two players making their AHL debut combined for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's second goal of the game. Skating in on the forecheck, Denver Manderson had an outlet pass deflect off his leg and into the slot. Cody Sylvester gathered the loose puck between the hashmarks and quickly sent a wrist shot inside the right post at 4:38 of the second.
The Americans quickly countered while on the man-advantage. A puck squirted out of the near corner to Jamie Tardif, who wasted no time sliding a pass across the crease to Kevin Porter for the tap-in past Deslauriers.
Jayson Megna officially put the game out of reach with an unassisted empty-net goal with 49.6 seconds remaining in regulation. It was Megna's third goal in as many games and his sixth of the season.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins begin a two-game set against the St. John's IceCaps on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:05 p.m. Tune into all the live game action on MyNetworkTV and the Sports Hub 102.
