Upcoming

The Phantoms are finally playing at "Home Sweet Home" again following a 20-day break since their last home game. Adirondack hosts back-to-back home games this weekend against the Binghamton Senators and Albany Devils on Friday and Saturday and then will also begin their big Thanksgiving Weekend with a game on Wednesday, November 27 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The Phantoms enter the week with a record of 7-6-2 overall as they face three of the top teams in the league. Their first game is against the hottest team in the AHL right now. Binghamton has won six straight and are 11-4-0 overall. It doesn't get much easier after that however as the Albany Devils at 9-6-1 have won three straight and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with a 10-3-2 mark are second overall in the Eastern Conference.

Big promotions including the Scoville Jewelers Diamond Dig on Friday and the Youth Jersey Night on Saturday also highlight the action.

Lots of great hockey in Glens Falls is on the docket for the next couple weeks as Adirondack plays seven of their next eight games at home. The Phantoms' run of seven home games within 16 days from November 22 through December 7 is their busiest such stretch of the season and will feature seven different opponents visiting the North Country.

Penalty Kill Dominance

Adirondack's penalty-kill is second in the league at 89.6% barely trailing Springfield (90.5%). The Phantoms were leading the league in the P.K. but had their string of 28 consecutive kills ended on Friday night when they held the Senators to 1-for-7. The Phantoms have held their opponents to 2-for-43 in their last 11 games. And Adirondack has been even better at home having not surrendered a power-play goal in Glens Falls all season. The Phantoms penalty-kill is 25-for-25 on home ice this year.

Assist Record

Jason Akeson has 81 career assists with the Adirondack Phantoms and is just one away from tying Erik Gustafsson's record (82). Akeson is already the all-time points leader for the Adirondack Phantoms with 116.

His streak was at an even 100 to begin this season which included the last 24 games of 2011-12 and then all 76 games in 2012-13.

Last Week

Friday, November 15: Binghamton Senators 4 - Adirondack Phantoms 2

The Phantoms lost to Binghamton for the first time in three outings this year in their only game of the weekend. Adirondack blasted away on Binghamton goalie Nathan Lawson for 50 shots on goal but only Petr Straka and Kyle Flanagan were able to find the back of the net. The Phantoms outshot the Senators 50-23 in the game but Binghamton made the most of their opportunities to overcome an early third-period 2-1 deficit with back-to-back goals before tallying an empty-netter at the end.

The 50-shot barrage was Adirondack's highest total since a 52-shot outburst a couple seasons ago on February 25, 2012 also at Binghamton.

Upcoming Opponents

Binghamton Senators (11-4-0) - Affiliation, Ottawa Senators

Friday, November 22 (7:00) - Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, NY

Binghamton is the hottest team in the league. The Sens have won six straight scoring 30 goals in their streak which includes a pair of 7-3 scores over Rochester on back-to-back weekends. Adirondack is 2-1-0 against the Senators this year thanks to some spectacular goaltending by Cal Heeter in both wins. Last week, Adirondack dropped a 4-2 decision at the Broome County Veterans' Memorial. This is Game 4 out of 6 in the season series. Binghamton's last loss was in Glens Falls on November 1 when the Phantoms took them down 3-1. Binghamton also lost at home against the Phantoms on October 26. Those two losses are their only setbacks in their last 10 games and represents half of their losses on the season.

Binghamton boasts the second highest scoring team in the league at 3.8 goals per game (trailing only Grand Rapids, 3.88) and has the AHL's second-best power play at 26.2% (trailing only Texas, 29.5%).

Mike Hoffman leads the Senators with 9-10-19. Paris, France native Stephane Da Costa won AHL Player of the Week honors a couple weeks ago and has scored 5-10-15 this season.

Albany Devils (9-6-1) - Affiliation, New Jersey Devils

Saturday, November 23 (7:00) - Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls, NY

Adirondack and Albany hook up for the 4th out of 12 overall in the Northway Rivalry series. The Phantoms lead the series 2 games to 1 this year and 21-20 overall since the Devils moved to Albany in 2010-11. Since receiving goaltender Keith Kinkaid back from his call-up to New Jersey, the Albany Devils have won three straight. Just like Binghamton, the Devils' last loss came to the hands of the Phantoms before stringing together their win streak. The Phantoms won via a Yann Danis shutout on November 9 at TImes Uniion Center by a 2-0 final. Last week they defeated Hartford 3-0 and Syracuse 2-1 with Keith Kinkaid allowing just one goal on 55 shots through the weekend. Kinkaid is 6-1-1, 1.97, .922 this season. His goals-against average is second in the AHL right now trailing only Mike McKenna of Springfield (1.92).

Albany allows just 2.4 goals per game, third lowest in the AHL behind only Springfield (2.3) and Norfolk (2.35).

Speedy Joe Whitney leads the Devils in scoring with 7-8-15 following by linemate Scott Timmins at 5-8-13.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (10-3-2) - Affiliation, Pittsburgh Penguins

Wednesday, November 27 (7:00) - Glens Falls Civic Center

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is second in the Eastern Conference with 22 points trailing first place Manchester by three. The Baby Pens won back-to-back games last weekend over Syracuse 5-3 and Hershey 3-1. Former Phantom Harry Zolnierczyk has seven goals. Brian Gibbons was called up to Pittsburgh but still leads the Penguins overall at 7-15-22 and is second in the AHL in assists and third in points.

Journeyman goalie Jeff Deslauriers is second in the league in wins at 9-2-2, 2.47, .897.

Veteran Tom Kostopoulos is the team's captain and is now their active scoring leader at 5-8-13. Kostopolous has over 1,000 games of professional experience. The 34-year-old is returning to his original stomping grounds for the twilight of his career where he starred from 1999-2003. He is the all-time leader in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton history in games played (347), goals (105), assists (160) and points (265).

25 Terrific Seasons

Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of only 12 other cities who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979 who won four Calder Cups in their 20-year run at the GFCC. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-2010 and are in their fifth season in the North Country.
