Sat., Oct. 5 - Penguins 5 at BRIDGEPORT 2
Chris Conner and Harry Zolnierczyk each notched a pair of goals to help lift Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to a 5-2 win over Bridgeport in their season opener at Webster Bank Arena. Scott Harrington opened the scoring in his regular season pro debut with a power play goal at 12:56 of the first. Conner would tie the game at two, scoring on man-advantage with 2.1 seconds left in the second period. He later notched the game-winner at 12:24 of the final frame, eleven seconds before Zolnierczyk tallied his first of two markers in the period. Goaltender Jeff Deslauriers turned aside 22-of-24 shots to earn the victory for the Penguins.
The Week Ahead
Sat., Oct. 12 - PENGUINS vs. Hershey
W-B/Scranton hosts the Hershey Bears for the first meeting of their 12-game season series. The Bears fell in overtime to Adirondack on Saturday at GIANT Center. W-B/Scranton has an all-time record of 71-67-10 versus Hershey.
Sun., Oct. 13 - Penguins at SYRACUSE
The Penguins and Crunch meet for the first time since Syracuse's victory in the Eastern Conference Final series in last year's playoffs. The Crunch fell to Binghamton in OT in their home opener last Saturday. This will be game one of 10 this season between W-B/Scranton and Syracuse.
Ice Chips
- The Penguins are now 7-8-0-0 all-time in their season openers and 8-7-0-0 in road openers.
- Harry Zolnierczyk became the first Penguin to score twice in his W-B/S debut since Wyatt Smith recorded two goals and an assist on Oct. 3, 2009 versus Syracuse.
- Jeff Deslauriers' victory on Saturday night was his first with the Penguins since Apr. 11, 2007 - a 25-save shutout over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
- Scott Harrington tallied a PPG on Saturday in his regular season pro debut. He also scored a PPG in his postseason pro debut on May 31, 2013 at Syracuse in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final.
- Brian Gibbons registered two assists against the Sound Tigers for the 11th multi-point game of his career.
- W-B/Scranton netted four unanswered goals against Bridgeport and outscored the Sound Tigers 3-0 in the third period en route to their 5-2 win.
