St. John's IceCaps News Release


Gm. 1: Fri., Oct. 4 PRO 4 at STJ 3 (OT)

The IceCaps comeback fell short as they dropped the AHL's season- opening game. JC Lipon and Eric O'Dell scored in the final 1:49 to send the game to overtime but Nick Johnson got Providence the two points with a breakaway goal, his second tally of the night, in the extra frame.

Gm. 2: Sat., Oct. 5 STJ 5 vs. PRO 1

Eric O'Dell potted the third hat-trick of his AHL career. The win gave St. John's three of a possible four points in the opening weekend series.

Jerome Samson had a goal and two assists and Brenden Kichton scored his first pro goal and added a helper.

First Things Firsts: It was a week of firsts for several young IceCaps. On Friday, both Adam Lowry and JC Lipon scored their first professional goals, while Brenden Kichton scored his first pro goal and added a helper a night later.

Pardy Time: Veteran Defenceman Adam Pardy was assigned to St. John's from the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night. The Bonavista native participated in his first practice with the IceCaps on Tuesday morning. The former Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres rearguard will wear number 2 with St. John's. The 29- year-old has never played a pro game at Mile One Centre.

Sol Sent to to Ontario: To make room for Pardy, fellow blueliner Cody Sol was dispatched to the Ontario Reign of the ECHL on Monday.

Sol, 22, played in 26 games last season with the IceCaps where he collected a goal, three assists and 63 penalty minutes.

IceCaps Hand Out A's: Fan favourite John Albert and veteran newcomer Andrew Gordon were appointed assistant captains for the 2013-14 campaign.

Numbers Game: A couple of IceCaps have switched numbers this season.

Defenseman Will O'Neill changed from 23 to 27, while netminder Jussi Olkinuora ditched the number 33 he wore in his lone game last year in favour of number 31.
