Penguins Start Homestand with 4-1 Win over Senators
February 11, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Dominik Uher scored two goals and an assist, including the game-winner, and set a career high for points in a game as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins opened up their three-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
All the offense in the first period for the Penguins came off the stick of Uher as he recorded his first two-goal game since Apr. 13, 2013 at St. John's. The third-year forward gave Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 1 -0 lead 2:31 into the game with a snipe shot from the left circle that found a sliver of space over the shoulder of Senators goalie Scott Greenham.
Uher then doubled the Penguins lead six minutes later - this time from the far dot - handling a 2-on-1 rush himself and picking the inside of the left post for his seventh goal of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to build a three-goal cushion at 3:32 of the second period while skating on a 5-on-4 advantage. Tom Kostopoulos worked with the puck toward the right corner of the Senators zone before dropping a pass into the slot that Conor Sheary gathered and roofed over the glove of Greenham for his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
The Senators got some life late in the second when defenseman Aaron Johnson collected a turnover at center ice and scored on a breakaway with 3:25 left until the intermission.
The Penguins shut the door in the third period, holding Binghamton to just six shots, and put the game out of reach with 2:47 left in the contest when Matia Marcautoni led another odd-man rush and set up Bobby Farnham on the near post for his third of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Jeff Zatkoff made 26 saves on 27 shots to gather his first win of 2015 and raise his record to 12-10-3 on the season. Greenham fell to 7-6-2, stopping 27-of-31 shots by the Penguins.
The third Eyewitness News Fan Friday will take place on Friday, Feb. 13 as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton faces the Portland Pirates. Fans have a chance to purchase lower-bowl end zone seats for just $14 and select draft beers at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza will be just $2 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
