Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins started off their March schedule with a flourish, pounding the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 7-0, on Sunday at Webster Bank Arena and extending the team's point streak to 10 games (8-0-1-1).

In a penalty-filled first period, it was the Penguins who enjoyed a 16-5 shot advantage thanks in part to four power play opportunities. They would use a two-man advantage to tally the game's first goal as Tom Kuhnhackl redirected a wrist shot from Brian Dumoulin inside the right post at 8:23 of the frame.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton stretched its lead to 2-0 with 5:26 left until the first intermission during 4-on-4 play. Jayson Megna weaved his way past three Sound Tiger defenders before backhanding a pass to the front of the crease that Josh Archibald one-timed past David Leggio for his third goal of the season.

In the second twenty minutes of hockey, the Penguins were able to tack another pair of goals to make it a 4-0 cushion heading into the intermission. Megna put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton up by three at 2:23 of the period when he intercepted a pass right in front of the Bridgeport crease and fired the point-blank chance by the blocker of Leggio.

After doling out 15 power play assists this season for the Penguins, Dumoulin collected his first goal of the year on the man-advantage with 8:01 left in the period. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defenseman gathered a faceoff win from Andrew Ebbett and sailed a shot through a screen to the back of the net.

The Sound Tigers had sustained pressure in the Penguins zone to the start the third, but any hopes of a Bridgeport comeback were put aside when Scott Wilson rang a shot in off the post from the left circle 2:22 into the period.

Dumoulin assisted on Ebbett's marker at 12:59 of the third to complete one-goal, two-assist games for both players. Archibald added a 5-on-3 power play goal 57 seconds later for the first multi-goal game of the rookie's pro career and to make the final score, 7-0.

Penguins goalie Matt Murray only had to stop 18 shots in recording his third consecutive shutout and his fourth in his last five starts. The first-year keeper also collected his league-leading eight shutout, surpassing the team mark for shutouts in a season set by Brad Thiessen during the 2010-11 season.

The Penguins have won four in a row and registered points in 14 of their last 15 contests (12-1-1-1).

The Penguins continue their six-game road stretch on Friday, Mar. 6 as they face the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. Listen in on WILK Newsradio or watch online at AHL Live.
