Capitals Re-Assign Cameron Schilling and Aaron Volpatti to Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Cameron Schilling and forward Aaron Volpatti to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Schilling, 26, appeared in three NHL games with the Capitals this season. The Carmel, Ind., made his 2014-15 season debut on Feb. 6 against Anaheim. Schilling has recorded 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) and 42 penalty minutes in 45 games with Hershey (AHL) this season and has earned 45 points (12 goals, 33 assists) and 206 penalty minutes in 192 career AHL games. Schilling signed with Washington as a free agent on March 27, 2012.

Schilling played in 144 collegiate games during his four-year career with Miami University, collecting 57 points (eight goals, 49 assists) and 155 penalty minutes. The 6'2", 202-pound defenseman was a member of two NCAA All-Regional Teams (2008, 2010) and helped Miami win the 2010-11 CCHA Championship.

Volpatti, 29, played in two games with the Capitals this season after missing the first 27 games with an upper-body injury. The Revelstoke, B.C., native scored two goals and registered 49 penalty minutes in a career-high 41 games with the Capitals last season. Volpatti recorded seven points (five goals, two assists) and 137 penalty minutes in 114 career NHL games with Vancouver and Washington. Washington claimed Volpatti on waivers from Vancouver on Feb. 23, 2013.

The 6'1", 203-pound left wing has appeared in three games with the Bears this season. He tallied 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and 97 penalty minutes in 64 career AHL games with Manitoba and Hershey. Volpatti appeared in 123 games with Brown University (NCAA) from 2006-10, registering 62 points (32 goals, 30 assists) and 236 penalty minutes. He was named to the ECAC All-Academic team in each of his first three seasons and served as captain during his senior season.
