Pirates Beat Falcons 2-1

Portland, Me. - The Portland Pirates (30-22-3-1) beat the Springfield Falcons (32-20-6-0) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. All of the scoring in the game came during the second frame of action.

The game got off to a slow start, but the heat intensified in the second period. Justin Hodgman lit the lamp for the first time of the afternoon at 8:01, assisted by Brendan Shinnimin and Jordan Szwarz. Not too long after that the Falcons tied it up at 9:49 with an unassisted goal from Mike Hoeffel. Jordan Martinook scored the go-ahead at 13:12, assisted by Philip Samuelsson and Dylan Reese.

The 2-1 score held through the remainder of the second and the entirety of the third period. Portland goalie Mike McKenna (20-14-2) faced 33 shots from Springfield, saving 32 of them. Falcons net minder Anton Forsburg (20-8-1) stopped 18 of 20 Pirates shots.

The Pirates hit the road next weekend, playing the Syracuse Crunch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6; the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 7; and the Hershey Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. They return for home games on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14.
