WILKES-BARRE, PA (Saturday, October 26, 2002) - Goaltender Craig Andersson made 40 saves and Casey Hankinson had a goal and an assist as the first-place Norfolk Admirals defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 before a crowd of 8,319 at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.

The Admirals jumped out to a quick as Hankinson scored a power play goal 32 seconds into the contest. Norfolk scored just 10 seconds into Francois Leroux's holding penalty as he re-directed Kent Huskins' shot from the point past Sebastien Caron for the goal.

Early in the second period, the Penguins tied the game at 1-1 on Toby Petersen's first goal of the season at 6:1 1. Michal Sivek fired a shot from the slot that Andersson got a glove on, but the puck trickled behind him and Petersen was there to tap-in the shot for the goal.

The Admirals would regain the lead later in the third period as Steve McCarthy scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 16:13 of the period.

Making his sixth start of the season, Caron made 27 saves in a losing effort for the Penguins, while Andersson, who improved his record to a perfect 3-0 on the season, lowered his goals against average to 2.00. Overall, he is now 3-2 lifetime against the Penguins with a 1.97 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

The Penguins continued to struggle on the power play as they converted on just one of 11 chances on the evening, while Norfolk was 1 of 7 on the power play. In seven games this season, the Penguins have converted on only 10 of 63 power play chances (15.9%). With the win, Norfolk improves to 6-0-0-1 (13 points), while the Penguins' record fell to below .500 for the first time this season at 3-4-0-0 (6 points).

The Penguins return to action on Wednesday (October 30) when they host the Rochester Americans. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
