Pels Win Big Over Second Place Diablos

The Pensacola Pelicans used a four run 1st inning to negate an El Paso Diablo grand slam later in the game. That would be all El Paso would score while Pensacola tacked on five more to win 9-4 tonight in Pensacola.

Chris Reynolds reached base via a walk in the 1st inning and quickly trotted around to score off Napoleon Calzado's fourth homerun of the season. The next three batters reached base, on back-to-back singles byMarcos Rodriguez and Trino Aguilar, followed by a Bo Williams two- run double.

The Diablos tied the game in the 3rd inning in a big way by one swing. With Jordan Belcher, Casey Clary, and Albenis Machado all on base, Kory Drew drove the first pitch of the at-bat over the left field wall for a grand slam.

Diablos starting pitcher Andy Torres couldn't hold back the Pelicans offense as they added two runs in each of the next two innings. Calzado led off the 3rd inning with a double and Marcos Rodriguez followed with a walk. Both would come into score on two separate sacrifice flies from Williams and Josh Ragar, respectively.

In the 4th inning, Pensacola added two runs with RBI's from Williams and Bo Brown. After four innings, the Pelicans had an 8-4 lead.

Calzado finished 3-4 with 2 RBI and 4 runs while Bo Williams went 2-3 with 3 RBI. Marcos Rodriguez also had a solid night, going 3-4 with 3 runs.

In the 8th inning, Pensacola scored their final run of the game. Trino Aguilar drove in Calzado who walked and stole second base.

Pelicans starting pitcher Noel Baca picked up his first professional win. He gave up four runs on four hits while striking out seven in only five innings. Brandon Kling came on in relief and did not allow a run in three innings. Chris Thompson pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish out the Pelicans 9-4 victory.
