St. Paul Saints News Release

LINCOLN, NE (July 25, 2007) - This is just what the doctor ordered for the St. Paul Saints offense as they exploded for nine runs and 12 hits en route to a 9-5 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Wednesday afternoon at Haymarket Park.

The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring in the first when Adam Bourassa tripled and scored on a groundout by Adam Olow.

In the second Ben Thomas singled to short and moved to third on a double by Alex Fonseca. Thomas scored on a Kevin Carlson groundout.

In the fourth Brian sprout and Ben Thomas led off with back-to-back walks. After a sacrifice bunt by Fonseca, Skip Adams hit a grounder to short and Pichi Balet threw to the plate to get Sprout. Sprout slid around the tag and reached back to touch home to make it 3-0.

The Saltdogs tied it in the third on a two-run double from Balet and an RBI single by Brett Cooley.

The Saints, however, answered right back with two in the sixth when Adams reached on a one out single. He moved to second on an infield single by Scooter Jordan. Bourassa and Olow followed with back-to-back RBI singles to make it 5-3.

Saints reliever Byron Embry got out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the eighth by getting Dempsey to foul out to first and Ross McCoy to fly out to right.

The Saints used that momentum to score four in the ninth when Olow reached on an infield single to third. With one out Sprout singled to right. Thomas followed with an RBI double. He finished the day 3-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. After Fonseca was hit by a pitch to load the bases Adams cleared them with a double to left-center when Seth Pietsch lost the ball in the sun. Adams was 2-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored.

The victory gives Saints manager George Tsamis 263 in his Saints career, two shy of passing Marty Scott for most in team history.

The Saints head home and begin a three game series against the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Charlie Ruud (7-3, 3.86) to the mound against RHP Alexander Frnacisco (6-5, 5.02). The game can be seen on FSN North and heard on KBGY 107.5 FM as well as WCCO. It is Luck O' the Irish Night presented by Mulcahy.
