Pelican's Streak Comes to an End as Shreveport Steals One in Pelican Park

There was a full house at Pelican Park Friday night as 1,729 fans came to show their support for the team and partake in the Splash! Fiesta Night festivities.

Pelican starter Clint Sodowsky looked sharp yet again as he struck out nine Shreveport batters in six innings of work allowing only two runs. He was touched up for a solo homerun in the top of the second inning by the Sports' right-fielder Austin Easley.

Jose Yepez led off the bottom of the fourth for the Pelicans with a hard-hit single and then advanced to third on a double by Trino Aguilar. Tim Dorn then came to the plate leading the lead in batting average and drove in Yepez on a fielder's choice that resulted in Trino being thrown out.

The Sports added their second run in the sixth when Austin Easley collided with Pelican catcher Jose Yepez on a bang-bang play at the plate.

After Ed Montague lined out to lead the bottom half of the seventh Bo Brown drew a walk followed by Rolo Avila and Carlos Mendoza who hit back to back singles, Mendoza's driving in Brown. Juan Rocha came to the plate and drilled the ball to shallow right where Easley once again came up with a big play robbing Rocha of extra bases with a diving catch. Avila was able to tag up on the play and the Pelicans took their first lead of the game 3-2.

The Sports were able to tie the game at three apiece in the top of the eighth and then scored two runs in the top of the ninth when Easley struck again with a two out, two run double.

The Pelicans threatened in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and two down Palmer Karr grounded out to the Sports second baseman to end the game.
