Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today that they have acquired infielder Ricardo Cordova in a trade with the North Shore Spirit of the Can-Am League for future considerations. Cordova is a lifetime .301 switch-hitting infielder who has spent most of his time at either second base or shortstop.

"He's a steady presence in the middle of the line-up and has a proven record of offensive production," commented Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari.

Cordova originally signed in 1998 with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he played in their farm system for three years. He then spent one season with the St. Louis Cardinal's single-A team in 2002.

In Cordova's career, he holds a .301 batting average with 244 runs, 64 doubles, 20 triples, 24 home runs, 207 RBI, 145 walks, and 61 stolen bases.

His highlight season came in 2005 with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League. He hit .352, which was third best in the league, with 59 runs, 15 doubles, a league best 10 triples, 9 home runs, and 59 RBI. His 111 hits were fifth best in the league.

Pels Notes: The Pensacola Pelicans conclude their five-game series with Fort Worth on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. Shreveport comes to town starting on Friday at 6:35 p.m. for the first of a three-game series.
