Welcome to Pensacola, Ricardo Cordova. In his first game as a Pelican, Cordova went 4-for-5 and blasted a three-run dinger to put Pensacola ahead for good in a 6-4 win. Fort Worth jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, largely thanks to a three-run homer by RF Carlos Adolfo. But it didn't take long for Pensacola and Cordova to respond. The Pelicans scored twice in the bottom of the first, and Cordova's homer came in the bottom of the second. Pelicans starting pitcher Scott Vander Meer settled down after the first inning to hold the lead and earn the win. He combined with relievers Hunter Davis and Chris Thompson to deny Fort Worth any runs after the first inning. Sioux City ripped five hits for five runs in their first time at bat, lead by 1B Julian Benavidez's two-RBI double. Both Benavidez and CF Jason Tuttle had three hits, and the Explorers went for 14 hits combined.
