Coastal Bend Aviators News Release
The Coastal Bend Aviators poured on the runs early and kept the St. Joe Blacksnakes at arms length in the late innings for an 8-5 victory Wednesday night. Coastal Bend got a fine outing from staring pitcher Kevin Hull and banged out 17 hits to win their second in a row over St. Joe.
After cruising through the Aviators order in the first two innings, St. Joe starter Kellen Raab saw his fortunes change in a hurry. With 2 out in the top of the third, leftfielder Ryan Rachal dropped down a bunt single to the first base side for the Aviators first hit of the game. That brought up lead off hitter Brian Fryer who crushed his first homerun of the season for a 2-0 Coastal Bend lead.
The Aviators added another in the fifth, with Rachal again getting things started with a single to center. After advancing on a ground out, Rachal came home on James Lofton's single down the left field line.
Meanwhile Hull was parading the blacksnakes back to the dugout, allowing only 1 hit through 5 innings. In the sixth, Coastal Bend opened up a 7-0 lead by scoring 4 times in the inning. 3 straight singles. After a run scored on a fielder's choice, Brain Fryer continued his big night with a 2 RBI single to right field, chasing Raab from the game, and leaving runners at first and second. After a walk, James Lofton tallied his second single of the game, this one to right field, and the Aviators lead 7-0.
St Joe got back in the game by scoring 1 in the sixth and in the seventh, threatened to come all the way back. Hull allowed a single and two walks to load the bases before giving way to reliever Miguel Martinez. Blacksnakes centerfielder David Fowler greeted Martinez with a 3-RBI triple to the gap in left center, cutting the lead to 7-4. St Joe added another before Jonathan Hunton come in to snuff out the rally by getting a pop out and strikeout to end the inning.
