Pelicans Seven-Game Winning Streak Snapped in Winston-Salem

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (24-14) lost for the first time in a week Tuesday, falling 5-2 against the Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem. A four-run fifth inning helped Winston-Salem snap the Birds seven-game winning streak.

Right-hander Luke Jackson (4-2) took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits over five innings. The right-hander walked four and struck out four. Right-hander Myles Jaye (1-0) claimed the win, surrendering two earned runs on four hits over six innings in his Carolina League debut. He retired 10 straight during one stretch early in the game.

Winston-Salem's Max Peterson hurled two scoreless innings to notch his third save.

Mark Tracy launched a two-run double during Winston-Salem's four-run fifth inning. Jackson threw 33 pitches during the fifth and more than 50 in the fourth and fifth innings combined.

The Pelicans twice held leads in the first five innings. Trever Adams drilled an RBI single off the wall in the first inning to give the Birds a 1-0 lead. After the Dash tied the game on a Jeremy Farrell RBI single in the third, the Pelicans reclaimed the edge in the top of the fifth. The Birds loaded the bases with nobody down in the frame and got a run on a 6-4-3 double play from Jake Skole. Moments later, Jaye got Luis Sardinas to fly out, avoiding a big inning.

Royce Bolinger finished 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to five games. With a single in the fifth inning, Patrick Cantwell extended his hitting streak to a team-leading eight games.

Righty Nick McBride fanned three over two scoreless innings. Randol Rojas tossed a perfect three-up, three-down eighth inning.

The Pelicans have won seven of their last eight games and still sit 5.5 games up in the southern division heading into play Wednesday.

The Pelicans play the second game of a three-game series Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark. Left-hander Victor Payano (3-2, 4.29) will get the ball for Myrtle Beach and he will be opposed by Winston-Salem's right-hander Chris Bassitt (4-0, 1.71). First pitch is on tap for 7 p.m.
