THE HILLCATS: Beat the Carolina Mudcats 7-4 completing a four-game sweep in Zebulon...RHP Navery Moore gave up just two runs in six innings of work while striking out a season-high seven on his way to his third win...2B Emerson Landoni turned in another two-hit effort...He drove in two and scored a pair of runs as well...Landoni broke up a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with a two-run single and the Hillcats held onto the lead from there...The 'Cats are now 20-15 in first place in the Northern Division...
VS. FREDERICK: The Hillcats are 1-2 against the Keys this season, losing their first series on the road in Frederick April 15-17...Lynchburg lost the first two, but avoided the sweep with a 7-1 win in the finale...Frederick or Lynchburg have been in first place since the start of the season...However, coming into this series, the Keys sit in third place, losing four of their last five...
ROAD 'CATS: Lynchburg won the last four games of their seven-game road trip, sweeping the Carolina Mudcats, after losing their first three in Myrtle Beach, getting swept by the Pelicans...Their 11-8 road record is currently the best in the Carolina League...After putting up 37 runs on 50 hits in four games against Carolina, the team is batting ..274 on the road, averaging 5.9 runs per game..That's opposed to their home clip of .234 and 4.4 runs per game at City Stadium...Pitching on the other hand is better at home with a 3.72 ERA as opposed to a 4.75 ERA on the road...Hillcat hurlers own a 3.5 BB/9IP at home verses 5.2 away...
MOORE UP AND DOWN PRODUCTION: RHP Navery Moore turned in his third quality start of the season and earned his third win of the year last night...Eight starts into the season, he has been the epitome of hit or miss...In odd numbered starts (1,3,5,7) he owns an 11.65 ERA, but in even numbered starts (2,4,6,8) he boasts a 2.25 ERA...He has allowed at least five runs in every odd numbered start and two or fewer runs in each even numbered start...
RIDING HIGH: The Hillcats begin their homestand coming off a four-game winning streak, which matches their longest streak of the season (April 6-10)...They have scored 37 runs in those four games, their highest four-game tally this season, surpassing the 33 runs they put up in their last four-game streak...They hit .350 with five home runs and 16 doubles in the Carolina series...
SITTING HEFFLINGER: OF Robby Hefflinger is not in the lineup tonight for the first time this season...He started each of the Hillcats first 35 games of the season, and batted fourth in every game...Hefflinger is only outlasted by Potomac Nationals SS Jason Martinson who has started the first 37 games of the season for his club...Hefflinger is hitting .293 with eight home runs, and 26 RBI so far this season...Currently ranks among the leaders in average (8th), home runs (2nd), RBI (T-2nd), slugging percentage (.550, 3rd), and extra-base hits (19, 2nd)...
LANDONI LIGHTING IT UP: INF Emerson Landoni is hitting .500 (9-for-18) in five games with the Hillcats...Through 10 games with Double-A Mississippi, he batted .348 (8-for-23)...Has four multi-hit games for the 'Cats, currently on a three-game hitting streak...Has appeared at second base, shortstop, and third base for both Mississippi and Lynchburg this season...
HEFFTY HEFFTY HEFFTY: 2B Ross Heffley went 1-for-4 last night, extending his current hitting streak to his season-best five games...Batting .429 (9-for-21) during the streak lifting his average from .171 to .231...He's currently batting .355 (11-for-31) in May after hitting just .167 (10-for-60) in April...
RED HOT REYES: SS Elmer Reyes has a season-best five-game hitting streak as well, batting .555 (10-for-18)...Has multiple hits, at least one RBI, and at least one run scored in each of his last four games...Also his hist first home run since May 27, 2012 on Friday night...His .309 batting average ranks sixth in the league...Currently batting .368 in May, after a .278 April...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Eduardo Rodriguez signed with the Orioles in 2010 out of Venezuala at 17 years old (reported $175,000)...Debuted in the Dominican Summer League that year...Went 3-4 with a 2.33 ERA in 12 starts...Struck out 62 but also walked 28 in 66 innings...Made American debut in 2011 in the Gulf Coast League (1-1, 1.81)...Made 11 appearances, 10 starts, and struck out 46 in 45 innings (17 BB)...Went up to Aberdeen for one start (4IP, 6H, 3ER, 1BB, 4K)...First full-season in 2012, breaking camp with Low-A Delmarva...Went 5-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 22 starts...Saw his strikeout rate dip from nearly 9.0 K/9 to 6.1 (73K, 107IP)...But his walk rate went down as well (30)...Has a fastball (90-94), slider (80-84), and a changeup (82-84)...He turned 20 years old Sunday of opening weekend, and is the youngest player on the Keys roster...Gave up two runs in six innings, while striking out eight, winning his first start against Lynchburg April 15...Has completed at least six innings in five of six starts...Enters this start 7.1 innings off the league leader...
